Minimum System Requirements

You must meet the following minimum system requirements to run Sheetster Server.

Hardware

  • 1.0 GHz CPU, 500MB RAM

Operating System

You can run Sheetster Server on any Java 1.5+ compatible operating system including:

  • Linux (2.6 kernel
  • Unix
  • Windows XP, Vista, 7, Server 2003 or newer
  • Mac OSX

Software

  • Java 1.5+ compatible compiler (such as Jikes, javac, etc.)
  • Java 1.5+ compatible JRE
  • The installer for most platforms includes a JRE and compiler.

Additionally, for scalable Web applications we recommend using:

  • MySQL 5.1+ database (Web Application DB)
  • Apache 2.x HTTP Server (mod_proxy/load balancing)

Getting Started

Security Considerations

Java command should execute from shell as non-root user.  This is important to limit the permissions of the running process and improve security.

Sheetster can be configured to listen on any available port and IP address, so it is important to choose an IP and port that will be accessible from the systems you want to access the server from.

You can choose the IP address and port during installation, or using the Administration Console.
